R.J. Goodies

I've been waiting for my blog partner to write her part of the review... but no dice so here is the first post for We're Out To Lunch.

We had lunch at R.J. Goodies, a bakery that also serves lunch. The service was cheerful & attentive. When I arrived at 11:00 the place was empty but by noon it was bustling. The dining room was bright and pleasant with a number of tables and lots of windows.

I had the ham and broccoli quiche with pasta salad, and a cup of potato bacon soup. I brought home a piece of Texas Sheet cake.

The quiche was good up to a point, but there was a pocket of processed cheese that ruined it. I did not care for the pasta salad. The potato soup was fabulous! It is no wonder they serve it every day, it was not your typical baked potato soup with bacon bits and a wad of cheese on top. There was no cheese to be seen, there were nice sized chunks of perfectly cooked potato in a creamy and flavorful soup base which contained some bacon. It was fresh and delicious not overpowering or heavy.

The Texas sheet cake was moist with a thick layer of icing on top. The icing tasted like very soft fudge.

I would go back in a heartbeat. I'd like to try more of the soups, especially the Chicken and Wild Rice soup that is served on Thursdays. Next time I'll try one of the sandwiches on their famous rolls & possibly a piece of pie. I adore pie & I didn't realize until we left that you can get it by-the-slice.
